Tyler Wittman is originally from Texas, but has lived in various places in the USA and overseas, from Spain to Colorado to Scotland. He is married to a lovely Louisiana girl, Jessie, and together they are parents of four small children who fill their lives with immeasurable joy (and plenty of work).
Wittman joined the faculty of New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary in 2020, having previously taught for three years at her sister seminary in Kentucky. He teaches in the area of systematic theology with a specialization in the doctrines of God and creation, having taught introductory courses as well as electives on God’s attributes, the Trinity, and issues pertaining to contemporary theology and select major figures. He loves helping students to see how boundlessly majestic the God of the gospel is and how important theology is for every facet of ministry and the Christian life.
He received his Ph.D. in systematic theology at the University of St. Andrews, where he studied under the late Professor John Webster. Wittman focuses on the intersections between modern and classical divinity, with interests in the systematic, moral, and historical aspects of Christian theology – and particularly how these arise from theology’s primary task, exegesis. His first book, God and Creation in the Theology of Thomas Aquinas and Karl Barth (Cambridge, 2018) explored the nature of God’s relation to creation in two influential theologians, probing their dogmatic strengths and philosophical intelligibility. He is currently co-authoring a book with Dr. Bobby Jamieson entitled Biblical Reasoning: Seeing Christ and the Trinity in Scripture, which trains readers in the exegetical logic of Christianity’s central teachings. Wittman has also published in a variety of journals, including International Journal of Systematic Theology, Modern Theology, Scottish Journal of Theology, Pro Ecclesia, and Studies in Christian Ethics.
He enjoys spending time with his family; his hobbies include film, trying his hand at DIY projects, horology, and avidly following Dallas Stars hockey.
