In recent years, church programs designed specifically for women have been increasing. Many large churches have part-time or full-time women's ministry directors on staff. Smaller churches have lay women coordinating the women's programs on a volunteer basis. Therefore, the Church Leadership Certificate Program of the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary has developed specialized, short-term training for women's ministry leaders. This certificate is available to all persons regardless of educational background. It is designed to provide supplemental training for local church leaders in women's ministry.
The purpose of the Women's Ministry Basic Certificate is to prepare Christian women to lead the women's work through their local church. Courses will provide inspiration, information, instruction, and interaction for staff Women's Ministry Directors and lay leaders.
A woman with at least a high school diploma or a GED equivalent is eligible to apply for the Basic Certificate in Women's Ministry degree. Two required courses must be fulfilled at any time before the completion of the certificate: "Women's Work in the Local Church" (2 hours credit) and "Women's Ministry Project" (2 hours credit). The required courses satisfy four of the eight hours required for this certificate. The additional four elective hours can be completed by choosing from the courses listed below. Online courses are generally eight weeks in length, and are offered at the start of the fall, spring, and summer semesters. Students can enroll in independent study practicums at the start of each semester, and should complete them by the end of the semester.
The Women's Ministry Certificate includes 8 hours total of class credit including: Women's Work in the Local Chuch, Women's Ministry Project, and 4 elective courses.
